 Spring Break 2018

March 3-10, 2018

Mission Jamaica

Students spend one week during spring break working at various ministry sites tutoring children, sharing time with the elderly and sick, and working with adults with disabilities in Kingston, Jamaica. Volunteers visit the homes of the St. Patrick's Foundation, St. Teresa of Calcutta's Missionaries of Charity, and the Missionaries of the Poor.

Mission Ecuador

Students volunteer with Rostro de Cristo, an international volunteer and retreat immersion program outside of Guayaquil, Ecuador. Emphasis is placed on being with members of the local community rather than doing for them, building relationships and developing a greater understanding of the reality of Ecuadorians through visits and dialogue. Students will mingle with the people in the community and spend time visiting and learning about programs such as Fundacion Nuevo Mundo and Hogar de Cristo. Some spanish is preferred but not required.

Mission Dominican Republic

Students serve in the barrio of Los Tres Brazos, East Santo Domingo, DR, where the Bernadine Franciscan Sisters have served for over 20 years. Volunteers visit an elementary school daily, prepare and deliver lessons in English, and assist with other ministries such as adult education and helping in a health clinic. Some spanish is preferred but not required.

Mission Nazareth Farm, WV

Nazareth Farm hosts groups of all ages for a week-long service retreat experience in the Appalachian region. Throughout the week, volunteers will have the opportunity to learn about the farm, pray as a community, assist with daily chores, and work on home repair worksites. Volunteers can expect an opportunity for hands-on service, and community building with fellow volunteers and homeowners.

Mission Border Immersion

Students travel to El Paso, TX and Las Cruces, NM as part of a border immersion mission experience. This trip includes visits to facilities that provide care and resources to immigrants while diving deeper into the issue of immigration through dialogue and reflection. A 3-credit Theology course is required for participants of this trip.

Summer 2018

May 2018

Mission Belize
May 14-25, 2018

Students serve the community of Punta Gorda, Belize through tutoring and completing manual labor projects at the local parish and school, St. Peter Claver. Volunteers also have the opportunity to get to know the local community through cultural engagement activities and meals.

Mission Philadelphia
May 13-19, 2018

Volunteers will visit The Aquinas Center in South Philadelphia, which customizes urban immersion experiences within the context of a community that is continually shaped by immigration and migration. Projects balance interacting with people (tutoring, recreation, literacy, etc.) and demonstrated impact (community gardening, packing food, painting, etc.). The experience also includes neighborhood tours given by local teens, dialogue with community residents, educational presentations, and guided reflection around faith and justice topics.
